Press TV – Iran holds talks ahead of IAEA report.

Iran has held a ‘constructive’ round of talks with the IAEA, paving the way for further negotiations, an Iranian nuclear official says.

Deputy head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Olli Heinonen, arrived in Tehran on Monday to hold talks with Iranian officials on the country’s nuclear program.

Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization deputy chief Mohammad Saeedi said Wednesday that the recent talks were focused on IAEA Safeguards.

Heinonen last visited Tehran in early August as part of the ongoing discussions on the technical aspects of Iran-IAEA cooperation within the framework of the nuclear safeguards agreement.

The recent visits came ahead of a new IAEA report on Iran’s nuclear program – which is to be submitted by IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei before the next meeting of the agency’s board of governors.

Iran’s cooperation with the United Nations nuclear watchdog continues amid threats of further sanctions from the US and UK – which accuse Tehran of pursuing a military nuclear program

The UN Security Council – under US pressure – has already imposed three sets of sanctions in a bid to force Tehran into abandoning uranium enrichment.

Iran, a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), says while it is fully committed to dialogue to protect its right to the peaceful application of nuclear technology, it will not accept Western demands of bringing its nuclear activities to a halt.
