Nekounam Misses season for injury

Iranian Osasuna midfielder, Javad Nekounam misses the season because of his right knee ligament serious injury in a pre-season match.369.jpg

This serious injury occurred after being on the field in a friendly match against Villareal for only four minutes. The head of the medical services of the club, Patxi Cipriain indicated in a press conference that Nekounam is “very affected” by the injury and said that the decision has yet to be made when and where the defensive midfielder will have the surgery.

It is a terrible blow for the player that was given extra time off by Osasuna following his participation in the Asian Cup during the summer. The defensive midfielder made 24 appearances for the Spanish league, scored two goals, and is chosen as one of the most effective player of the Spanish season.

Nekounam (normally called ‘Neku’ in Spain) has been chosen as Iran’s best player of the year and won the “Golden Ball” a week later.

Nekounam appeared good in 2006 World Cup in Germany, 2007 Asian Cup, Spanish first division (La Liga) and EUFA cup that helped Osasuna reached semifinal.

“Probably, we will seek a second opinion from another specialists and it will be then that we will know how to proceed. In principle he is likely to be out for six months.” Patxi Cipriain, The head of the medical services of the Osasuna said.
