Iran has won the gold medal in the U-18 Asian water polo held in Indonesia. This is Iran’s second Asian title in water sports since 2005.
Jakarta hosted the final match on Friday, August 10 in which Iran defeated Kazakhstan 13-8 and secured the Asian title. Earlier on Friday, Singapore overcame Kuwait 6-5 in a close match to place third and take the bronze medal. In the coming weeks Iran will face Serbia, Greek, Australia, New Zeeland and Japan in the U-20 World Water Polo Games. The tournament will be hosted by the US from Aug. 17 to Aug. 27.
“It was a good performance. Our players attacked well. We knew we were going to be the dominating team and we were in possession all through the match as we had wanted.” Iran’s water polo coach Kovacevic said. “Six of our team members will be replaced for the US world games. We have a good chance to achieve higher goals in that tournament.” Kovacevic added.
